It's a small village with a few restaurants and shops that is really a jumping off point for hikers and visitors to the area. There is not a ton to do there. There is a gas station/grocery store that was a good place to grab supplies.

I'd suggest spending at least two nights here. That was my intention, but the weather had another idea. I'd biked to La Palud from Nice (130 km with over 2,000 meters of climbing). However, the forecast for two days out was for rain and 7 C. As the return route has 60-80 km at 1,000 meters, doing that in the cold rain would have been unpleasant.
I ate at the Italian restaurant in the village. It was excellent.

La Palud is a small mountain village with some nice bars and shops. It's the heart of Verdon and the base camp for all the outdoor athletes in and around Verdon Canyon.
The Verdon Canyon is a breathtakingly beautiful and impressive landscape. The canyon hike is highly recommended, but also the mountain hikes in the surrounding area. And among climbers, the walls of the Verdon are legendary anyway. One of the best and most spectacular climbing areas in southern Europe - breathtaking.

BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAIN LOCATION AND SUPERB UNESCO GEO-SITE AT THE GORGES. WORTH THE TRIP. ROAD ACCESS IS A LITTLE DAUNTING WITH TWISTING MOUNTAIN ROUTE TAKING LONGER THAN ONE WOULD IMAGINE FOR THE DISTANCES INVOLVED. MUST BE VERY BUSY/DIFFICULT AT HEIGHT OF SUMMER. BEST TO PLAN A TOURING ITINERARY TO TAKE IN THE PLACES YOU WANT TO VISIT AND TO MINIMIZE DRIVING THE ROADS. HAVING SAID THAT THE DRIVE AROUND THE CIRCULAR ROUTE DE CRETES IS A MUST DO. SUPERB WALKING ROUTE ALONG THE GORGE ALSO (TORCH NEEDED FOR TUNNELS). GOOD INFO' ON THESE AT THE TOURIST OFFICE WHERE GOOD ENGLISH IS SPOKEN. FINALLY, A VISIT TO NEARBY MOUSTIERS ST. MARIE IS ALSO HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Small town in the Verdon.
Small town in the Verdon.
Single file traffic through the town in the holidays can cause a slight traffic build up but this moves relatively well & is only noticeable at Peak times.
Perfect place to base to explore the Gorge, Lac du Verdon & Lac de Castillon.
Plenty of outdoor companies offering rafting, aqua trekking, climbing etc. We used Ride the Verdon who were excellent (Aqua trekking with a 10 year old)

Excellent location just a short walk into town. Several good restaurant options in town. The hotel breakfast was a very good continental one. Most notable was the owner of the hotel is hands-on, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. he even helped us get our Orange SIM cards up and running so we had data! But he also is meticulous in the care of the hotel down to the smallest details; clean, neat, organized, service-oriented. View is spectacular from balconies and the pool was a great dip after a day of hiking.
the location (La Palud) is ideal to enjoy Les Gorges du Verdon area, and all outdoor activities that this region has to offer.
The view over the mountain and gorges from the hotel is stunning.
the restaurant is excellent and the wine choice is really good. we enjoyed it so much that we had diner at the restaurant every evening of our stay . why bother going somewhere else ?
the staff at the hotel was both very friendly and very effective. We felt at home !
The staff was amazing! They responded very quickly on booking.com chat to any questions. The rooms and bathrooms are large especially coming from Paris. It is very clean. The location is perfect in a little town and 30 seconds to the bus stop to take you to a popular 14km hiking spot. The restaurant in the hotel is Also very good. Lots of treats available in the shop too for presents to take home. Free parking on site.
The Auberge des Cretes is private yet close to La Palud Sur Verdon and other towns, offering access to great hikes, like the Sentier Blanc-Martel.
Staff was very friendly, gave great recommendations and went out of their way in helping us move around the Verdon (we didn’t have a car)
The room was big, it had a balcony to enjoy the warmth of the sunset. Breakfast was fulfilling and dinner delicious.
We loved our stay at the Hotel Panoramique! The rooms are very small, but the terrace and the grounds more than make up for it. It's not easy to find a hotel with such beautiful expansive grounds and in such a wonderful location, right near the Gorge du Verdon. It is extremely clean, the breakfast is wonderful, and the managers/owners couldn't be nicer. We highly recommend the Hotel Panoramique!!
the hotel is nestle in Gorge de Verdon . We spent there one night while visiting the area
The staff is helpful polite and accommodating
The rooms are clean and have balcony with beautiful scenery
There is a pool on site
They have bar with some snacks and pizza if you are looking to grab a bite
They serve a very nice breakfast
A tranquil spot 2 km from the village of La Palud. It was so quiet, I could hear horses braying when I sat outside. The room is basic, but commodious. I was able to store my bicycle inside. There's also a refrigerator that guests can use. There's a terrific view from the Auberge.
great location, elevated position with spectacular views. hotel facilities excellent. breakfast and evening meal excellent, lots of choice. different areas to have drinks, breakfast and dinner. staff very pleasant and accommodating.
There was fresh fruit available for breakfast. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was nice and at an enjoyable temperature. The hotel was at a 30 min drive from most of the interesting places to visit.
The hotel position is perfect to do activities in Gourges du Verdon and the view is really beautiful. They also have a nice swimming pool, terrace and relax area. The parking is free and the rooms have a small balcony.
It’s not a 5* hotel and that is what makes it perfect! The area is great, lot’s of nature around you and the staff is so friendly. Room and breakfast have all you need.
